Women’s History Month In the PUSD
10th Annual
THE HISTORY OF THE PUSD WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH ASSEMBLY
WHM in PUSD: The Women’s History Month assembly in the Pasadena Unified School District began with my question Eliot Arts Magnet Principal Lori Touloumian: “Why don’t we celebrate Women’s History Month? She replied, “Let’s do it.” The rest is history.
We focus on the women’s liberation movement and it is for middle and high school students. Students create art and write essays for this public assembly and the gallery is filled with original art by the students. There is no contest because we wanted to keep in accordance with the women’s liberation movement where they were committed to a non-hierarchical movement. This assembly is recognized by ACSA Region 15.
There is an exhibit that can be shown at libraries and universities fo 300 pieces of ephemera.
Press: ColoradoBoulevard “Hall Lee underscored the broader educational mission: “The history of how the women’s liberation movement advanced our nation is worthy of being studied, and PUSD is at the forefront of this type of academic innovation.”
The assembly builds on a legacy of high-profile keynote speakers, including Sasha Renée Pérez, Judy Chu, Maxine Waters, Hillary Clinton, and labor activist Dolores Huerta. Past events have even featured pre-recorded messages from women’s rights activists in Pakistan, underscoring the assembly’s global perspective.”
